110 Freeway widening project threatens Channel Street?

Plans are being made to widen the 110 Harbor Freeway as it passes over the Channel Street Skatepark. While the parties involved (the Port of Los Angeles and CalTrans) have made promises that the skatepark will be spared, who really knows exactly what is going on. At the very least, parts of the skatepark may have to be shut down temporarily (6 months to a year?!) as a result of the construction that will be going down.

There will be a public meeting/open house sponsored by the Port and CalTrans on the situation on January 7th, 2009. It will be in Wilmington (town next to Pedro) at Bannings Landing Community Center, 100 east Water Street. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Please try and come out. The more people we have there for support the better.
